- The best method to finding a weekday is John Conway's Doomsday Method.
- First, know that every year there are certain dates that all land on the same weekday. The dates are:
- 4/4, 6/6, 8/8, 10/10, & 12/12
- 9/5 & 5/9, 7/11 & 11/7
- The last day of February
- 1/3, unless it's a leap year, then 1/4
- Conway calls these "anchor days"
- To get a year's doomsday, do the following:
- Think of the numbers 0 through 6 as Sunday through Saturday
- Start with 2 for 2000s, 3 for 1900s, 5 for 1800s, 0 for 1700s
- Look at the last two digits of the year
- Add in the number of 12s in those digits
- Add in the remainder after dividing by 12
- Add in the number of 4s in the remainder
- Take that number and divide it by 7 -- then look at the remainder
- That number is the number of the doomsday
- Find the closest anchor day to your date and count from there
